So much so that, in the analysis of our colleague Juan Carlos López, these televisions have achieved perfection in both the A95K and the 2023 model A95L. However, the company also wants to strengthen other technologies in its television series. That’s why they just presented New generation Smart TVs with MiniLED and OLED panels.

From QD-OLED to MiniLED: This is Sony’s new high-end Bravia 9
Sony A95L is still very close to us. Far from offering the third generation QD-OLED panel, the Japanese company has revealed all its technical power in the production of MiniLED panel televisions. Our colleague Antonio Sabán was at a Sony event in Los Angeles on the occasion of the launch of these televisions and had the opportunity to see how they work in detail.
It looks like Sony has opted to use much simpler brand names on its televisions this year. In Bravia 9, we see a 4K UHD resolution television and a panel with MiniLED technology. Since it cannot be otherwise at this level, the panel achieves 10-bit color depth, 120 Hz native refresh rate and it also supports the most common HDR standards such as Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10 and HLG (without a trace of HDR10+, as expected).
The panel technology of these televisions is much improved compared to the previous generation. This is largely thanks to greater brightness distribution and number of local dimming zones. According to the manufacturer, Bravia 9 will offer 50% more brightness and 325% more local dimming zones than the X95L model. According to the company, its target this year is Sony. Bravia 9 brings the viewing experience closer to something exactly like what the HX3110 professional mastering monitors offer.
After some quick calculations and no official confirmation from the company, this television It will have a peak brightness of approximately 2,250 nits and 1,560 dimming zones on the 65-inch model compared to the X95L’s 480 zone, giving you greater control over the lighting provided in each scene. Logically, the 75 and 85 inch models will have a larger number of zones since they have a larger surface area. However, we should also point out that this television does not have a 65-inch model in Europe.
To accompany this development, we have Sony’s control algorithm via the Cognitive Processor XR, which is available on all models announced today. The Sony processor has been on the market for a while. unbeatable when it comes to dimming zone control and the dynamic tone mapper delivers the highest performance even in fewer regions than competitors.
When it comes to audio, the Bravia 9 follows the same lines that Sony’s top-end TVs have followed to date: using the panel as a speaker. This way, sound is sent through the panel, with tweeters on the side and new beam tweeters reflecting sound towards the ceiling.
As usual Sony television offers: Google TV as operating systemThis allows us to use the Google Play Store to download applications, enjoy streaming platforms, control smart devices and interact with Google Assistant, among other functions.
New MiniLEDs will be accompanied by Bravia 8, W-OLED panel
Despite having an OLED panel, the Bravia 8 is one step below the above-mentioned model, according to Sony. At the end of the day, the company wants to offer different approaches, and although the A95L will be its most premium series in 2023, the Bravia 9 will be the same in 2024, despite having MiniLED technology. However, this does not mean that the company will abandon the rest of the technologies found in its other televisions. That’s why it comes into play Bravia 8, a television with OLED panel and 4K UHD resolution.
The OLED panel of this television is manufactured by LG, which tells us that it is not a panel equipped with quantum dots, but rather what we are talking about. One of the W-OLED type. Here, Sony continues to rely on the 120 Hz native panel refresh rate and 10-bit depth, replacing the A80L model released last year.
According to the company, the recovery is as follows: 10% at maximum brightness rendering It is identical to its predecessor and comes with the same XR Cognitive Processor as its bigger sister, as well as features of its panel. Additionally, 77, 65 and 55 inch versions will also be released.
Bravia 7 is Sony’s entry into 2024 MiniLED
Finally, Sony also introduced another model with MiniLED technology, which is an improvement from its predecessor, the X90L. According to the company, the real change of this television comes in the local dimming zones, which manage to increase these zones to 8. If the 65-inch model of the X90L already had 80 zones, we’d be talking about 640 zones here. Moreover, Brightness increased by 33% compared to the previous modelIt can reach 1,700 nits. We will have to wait once again to see official data, as Sony is currently providing us with details based on improvement percentages.
In addition to these improvements, the television also features a 4K UHD panel, 120 Hz native refresh rate and 10-bit color depth. In addition to its older sisters’ XR Cognitive Processor, the television also offers compatibility with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10 and HLG, along with Google TV as its operating system.
It will be interesting to know the price of this television because we will talk about it now. the most economical MiniLED model This is Sony’s launch of its television lineup for 2024 and it will come in 65, 75 and 85 inch sizes.
