As we told you recently, Movistar has updated HDR options for users with UHD codec. Like this, Eliminates display issues when viewing content not available in HDR.
In this article we show you how to enable this setting step by step and so you will be able to enjoy HDR and SDR content without image-degrading changes.
A problem that is slow to solve
Users with Movistar UHD decor have several advantages. Besides accessing some streaming apps from the decoder itself, customers can also enjoy 4K HDR contentsomething that currently only applies to 4K football channels, Formula 1 and on-demand series and movies compatible with that resolution. However, users will also be able to take advantage of the World Cup in Qatar, especially considering that both RTVE and Movistar will broadcast the matches in 4K HDR.
But so far Movistar customers have suffered from poor conversion in terms of dynamic range and color spectrum. And when it came to playing non-HDR content, the codec continued to implement the BT.2020 standard. this resulted in colors that did not represent the real image well. The workaround was to lower the resolution to 1080p and disable HDR to continue playing SDR content without changes.
Three HDR options available in UHD decor
But Movistar has finally fixed this issue and there is now a new HDR option. To apply, all we have to do is press the button ‘Menu’ On the remote control of the UHD decoder and enter the settings. Once here, we have to choose the option ‘HDR’.
Once we are in the HDR section, we will notice that we now have three options: On, Auto, and Off. If we select the Auto option, HDR will now only be active for content compatible with high dynamic range and will be disabled if the content we are watching is in SDR. This option also differs between HDR10 and HLG.
If we force HDR with the ‘Enabled’ option we will see all the content in HDR by converting even the incompatible ones and therefore it will deteriorate the image quality, if we choose the ‘Disabled’ option we will see all the content. in RDS. Like this, the recommended option would be to leave it as ‘Auto’.because it now works properly and is not the same as before.
If your decoder still doesn’t have this option, you should wait, because the company recently released it and it may take a little longer to arrive in some parts of Spain. You should do nothing but the decoder will update automatically.
While the update is good news for all UHD buyers, some users reported: audio problems occurred. It looks like the system will be detecting 5.1 audio on all channels when most are broadcasting at 2.0. This makes it sound much worse than before. We hope the company fixes this new issue as soon as possible because there is no news about it at the moment.
