researchers from Sherbrooke UniversityCanada has developed landing technology for drones which allows the machine to land on sites with an inclination of up to 60º. The prototype used to test the technology is DJI F450 with a movable chassis with fabric that absorbs shock and provides better grip when landing. Thanks to this functionality drone receives improvements for areas of activity and a new security solution.

Landing the DJI F450 drone on a 60º sloped roof

Overwhelming majority drones for consumers these days, a flat area is required for the device to land on. This not only affects the place where the average user works, but also limits the audience that wants to buy the product. However, researchers from Createk Design Labsituated on Sherbrooke Universityadapted DJI F450 land in places where it would be difficult to maneuver.

O DJI F450 adapted has a movable chassis to provide stability when touching the surface, and its tips are equipped with high friction fabric and are able to absorb impact upon landing, preventing drone “bounce” or a raincoat. In addition to these tools, the propeller reverse is also quickly activated to help with landings. Reverse also acts to prevent jump DJI F450 and possible rollovers (see this feature from the 2:00 video)

Possible use of tilt landing technology for drones

DJI Mavic 3 drone takes off from Everest and reaches a height of 9232 meters, where even helicopters cannot fly

According to a research study published in IEEE Explorelanding system allows drones land on slopes up to 60º and vertical speed up to 2.75 m/s. The system can expand the possibilities drones in urban areas, such as street surveillance through rooftops, recharging batteries with chargers installed in the same place, and increasing the likelihood of crash landings.
