There are still many unknowns about the birth and death of stars. As the scientific world continues its efforts to uncover these mysteries, an impressive picture has recently been shared.
The research, published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, has released an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble, a dying one the last lights of the star emitted in its galaxy managed to catch up. The resulting image was as follows:
The last light emitted by a star:
The ‘d’ refers to the day the photo was taken.
The image we see above was created by combining several images that Hubble created over 5 years. The star whose last light we looked, it was experiencing the supernova event, it exploded violently. The last light emitted from the star into space also spread in waves across the galaxy.
The appearance of the image occurred thanks to the scientists’ decision to view the star after this supernova that happened in 2016. The supernova, defined as ‘SN 2016adj’, is in the Milky Way galaxy we are in. In its neighbor Centaurus A, 12 million light-years away existed.
