Developer Epic Games has released Unreal Engines with native support for Apple’s chips for the Mac for the first time.
Mac users can now also use the new Unreal Engine 5.2 smoothly and directly. Developer Epic Games has provided native support for Apple’s laptop chips, which is a first!
Previously, Mac users had to work with the Unreal Engine via Rosetta 2. Rosette enables apps for Intel-based Macs to run on computers running on Apple’s own processors by translating code from x86 to ARM in real time. This works, but is not efficient.
The translation is no longer necessary and according to Epic Games this adjustment would result in improved performance and more stability. Unreal’s native integration is great news for developers with M1 or M2 Macs.
In addition to support for Apple’s silicon, this upgrade naturally also includes new features. With procedural content generation, the program now provides a framework for faster and more efficient “population” of large scenes and worlds with assets generated by the Unreal Engine.
With Substrate, designers and engineers have more control over the visual aspect of objects. It expands the possibilities for rendering surfaces and is particularly useful for rendering planes, e.g. B. Dirt on a colored object. Or you can give the chassis of a car a realistic metal layer that is already more complex.
There will also be more opportunities for filmmakers. The possibilities for digital scenes or recordings are expanding and soon there will be an app that studios can use to control light and color nuances in real time during recording. You can already see what some of these upgrades can do with a short clip from Epic Games.
