As I said above, we know our limits, but not in the way that NUVIEW wants to show us. Their idea map the entire planet Earth with LiDAR technology. That’s right, on every corner.

The entire Earth is mapped in 3D

The enterprise in which NUVIEW wants to get stuck, wants to model our entire planet using LiDAR technology. In “conventional” ways, without using this new resource, such a feat might not be possible, but with the precision of LiDAR, it will become a reality if they are successful.

LiDAR, or Light Detection and Ranging, is a technology used to measure the height of the earth using light with millimeter precision. This process fires a beam of light at the surface and then formulates metrics based on the light that reflects after bouncing off the ground. The technology is so precise that it can detect small changes in light as it passes through foliage such as trees or bushes.

Everything that is collected becomes data that will be used to create detailed 3D maps. This will allow complex structures around the world to be mapped. This can help in a variety of ways, including rapid response to natural disasters, emergencies, and climate change.

Today, this is applied on a smaller scale by specialized companies that use LiDAR drones, for example from DJI, skydio This Outel. These are automated drones that are able to map open areas, monitor buildings, and are even used in military operations.

What NUVIEW wants is to expand this to a scale never seen before, now that the technology has evolved to do so. It will launch 20 LiDAR satellites into low Earth orbit to create the first 3D map of the entire globe. These are small satellites that can support the power needed for LiDAR technology and will be able to collect data with it.

The project will take about three years to build and launch its first satellite. After the completion of the first, it will be possible to launch a new one every 18 months. Thanks to this, it will be able to provide data that NUVIEW uses to update the 3D map of our planet every year.
