Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises to improve performance while maintaining efficiency

With Apple’s clear technological dominance in the ARM spectrum, Qualcomm has the pressure on its shoulders to deliver something really great through Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, its other high-end SoC. Although the official launch is still a few months away, it seems that the aforementioned processor will bring performance improvements while maintaining efficiency.

The latest information about the alleged capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 comes from Ice Universe, a well-known leaker. Here we find the functions that we have already mentioned on previous occasions, such as configuration 1 + 5 + 2 cores instead of 1 + 2 + 2 + 3. If the rumors and leaks so far come true, the basic configuration will consist of one Cortex-X4 core, five Cortex-A720 cores and two Cortex-A520 cores. The integrated GPU would be the Adreno 750, which has been significantly improved according to the leak.

Nothing new yet, but Ice Universe also mentioned the implementation 10 MB level 3 cache compared to the 8MB that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has, which will remain more or less at the same level as the previous generation in terms of efficiency. The ability to improve performance without sacrificing efficiency is a very positive point, although for now it would be wise to take this information with a grain of salt.

OnePlus is apparently already internally testing a version or prototype of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to include in future generations of its smartphones and other high-end devices, while on the other hand it is expected to be present in at least some models of the Samsung Galaxy S24 seriesas the South Korean giant has decided to try again with its own SoCs, quite possibly the Exynos 2400, which will implement RDNA 3 graphics.

The first joint adventure of Samsung and AMD with the Exynos 2200 did not live up to the expectations created, but the companies decided to give themselves a second chance to see if this time they will take on Qualcomm and Apple, seeing that Samsung does not pay to rely too much on Qualcomm.

In short, and we wait for Samsung to decide in the end, everything indicates that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will live up to the expectations that it generates, but if the SoC has not been released and is being tested by people or independent parties, it is best to take this data with a grain of salt .
