To fight spam, Google is now deleting inactive accounts. According to the search giant, such accounts are 10 times less likely to have 2FA enabled than active accounts. Once an account is hacked, it can be used for spam or identity theft. It goes without saying that Google also saves some costs in the process, but is not mentioned.
If there has been no “activity” for a period of two years, all content will be permanently deleted. By activity, Google means that a person must log in at least every two years or do one of the following:
Those who are already approaching the two-year mark need not worry. Google will not start doing this until December 2023.
If you have a business (Google Workspace) account and pay monthly, you don’t have to worry. Logically: free money as long as the account is not used.
