OpenAI CEO and ChatGPT chatbot developer Sam Altman has urged US lawmakers to regulate artificial intelligence (AI).

This was reported by the BBC, Ukrinform reports.

As noted, the head of the company testified before the Senate committee on the possibilities and shortcomings of the new technology, emphasizing the need to create an agency for licensing companies engaged in the development of AI. He made several recommendations on how the new agency could regulate the industry, including allowing and revoking such companies.

Altman also acknowledged the impact that AI could have on the economy, including the possibility that AI technology could replace some jobs, leading to layoffs in certain industries.

Altman also expressed concern about how artificial intelligence could be used to target disinformation during elections.

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal stated that an AI-dominated future is “not the future we want”.

“We have to maximize the good instead of the bad. Congress now has a choice. We had the same choice when we faced social media. We couldn’t seize the moment,” he said.

As reported by Ukrinform, the World Health Organization has called for caution when using AI in healthcare, as data used by AI may be biased or used for other purposes.
