Sony introduces the Xperia 10V: a new mid-range smartphone that has to combine limited weight with a decent battery.

Sony is no longer the big smartphone manufacturer it once was, but the Japanese manufacturer has no plans to throw in the towel right away. This is demonstrated by the Sony Xperia 10V: a smartphone with a price of 449 euros (incl. VAT) aimed at the general public who want a decent device without spending a month’s wages on it.

According to Sony, the weight is a first important advantage. At 159 grams, this device is very light. Sony even calls the phone the lightest 5G smartphone on the market. However, there is a 5.000mAh battery Inside. It’s on the front 21:9 6.1 inch OLED screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Sony opts for an FHD+ resolution (2,520 x 1,080 pixels). In addition, the display has a conservative refresh rate of 60 Hz and must cover one hundred percent of the DCI-P3 color space.

Three cameras

There are three cameras on the back. The main camera gets one 48 MP sensor behind an f1/8 lens with optical image stabilization. Sony, like most manufacturers, uses pixel binning, in which four pixels work together to form a top pixel, so the final product resolution is 12 MP, but is nicer and clearer.

We also see a wide-angle lens with an 8 MP camera behind it. From experience we can say that the modest image sensor means you won’t use the camera often, especially in low light conditions. Just like the Selfiecemara, the telephoto lens also has an 8 MP sensor.

Inside we find one Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G, 6GB RAM And 128 memories. If you still have wired headphones lying around somewhere, then you’ve come to the right place, because Sony does provide an additional 3.5mm connection.

Strong competition

On paper, the Xperia 10V looks like a decent device for its money. Average but adequate hardware combined with an OLED screen and a decent-looking main camera make this device an interesting option. On the other hand, the competition cannot be put out to tender. The OnePlus Nord 2, for example, is a bit cheaper, comes with an optically stabilized main camera with a 50 MP sensor and gets 12 GB of RAM: twice as much as Sony wants to give you. In addition, the Nord 2 with 128 GB is almost 80 euros cheaper. To what extent Sony justifies its additional price for the Xperia 10V is difficult to deduce from the specifications.
