Toyota Motor Corp, along with two other automakers, introduced an electric van for the Japanese distribution industry on Thursday.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.

The presentation took place in Hiroshima, Japan as part of the G7 (G7) summit, one of the main topics of which is the reduction of carbon emissions to the atmosphere.

The small electric commercial van will be powered by a battery electric vehicle system that Toyota has developed in conjunction with mini-car specialists Daihatsu and Suzuki Motor Corp. The minibus will go on sale in versions under the brands of all three brands.

The new minibus, which will have a charge reserve of 200 kilometers, will enter service on March 31, 2024.

According to the statement, the cars will be produced by Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota since 2016.

The new model will be classified as a “kei” vehicle, which is low-power and exempt from local tariffs in Japan.

Micro kei vehicles are very popular among businesses and households for delivering agricultural produce, packages and other goods in urban and rural areas of Japan, in part because of their relatively low cost.

As reported by Ukrinform, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corp. plans to convert the entire model range of cars to electric motors by the middle of the next decade.
