The American publication, examining the satellite image of the Planet Labs company, claims that the Luan Air Base in the Chinese province of Anhui, where the WZ-8 is located, has been modernized. In particular, the surface of the 3,200-meter runway has been improved, the taxiways have been expanded, and the construction of hangars that can accommodate 20 bomber-sized aircraft continues.
Defense News claims the WZ-8 was carried by an H-6M bomber – the drone is attached to a suspension point on the underside of the fuselage.
The publication says that, based on documents posted on Discord, the WZ-8, which can reach speeds of Mach three at an altitude of 30 kilometers, can perform reconnaissance missions over South Korea and Taiwan.
