Apple this week released an updated number of apps the Cupertino-based company has in the App Store, according to a report calculated through 2022. By the last day of last year, the app store reached 1,783,232 apps.. This is the highest number ever recorded on the platform.

The App Store Transparency Report, with figures from the end of last year, also indicated that Apple removed 186,000 apps from the store. Games were the category with the most apps removed, with a total of 38,883 apps. At the same time, the utility category was in second place, but almost half as many applications were removed from the store: 20,000 were removed from the store.

Apple has removed 1,474 apps from its app store in response to a series of government requests. Coincidence or not, 97% of apps pulled from the App Store were removed following a request from mainland China: “Apps are only removed from shelves where the requester has legal standing, while remaining available on all other shelves,” Apple says.

The report shows that the average number of customers searching the App Store in 2022 reached an impressive 373,211,396 per week. The total number of applications that appeared in the top ten results of at least 1,000 search queries was 1,399,741.

Data released by Apple also indicates that there were 36,974,015 Apple Developers registered as of the end of 2022. The average weekly number of visitors to the App Store was 656,739,889, and the average weekly number of app downloads reached 747,873,877.

Numbers Show App Store Growth

Data relating to the total number of applications submitted to the App Store shows significant development of the platform over the past few years. At launch, it only had 500 apps available, but just a year later, with the release of the iPhone 3GS, that number jumped to 75,000.
