Complaints about printers suddenly not working have been pouring into HP forums for the past week. A fatal blue message with the error code “83C0000B” appears on the small touch screen. A faulty firmware update causes some HP printers to fail beyond repair.
The issues are reported worldwide from the US, UK, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands and France.
An official response from HP concerns a limited number of devices within the OfficeJet 9020e series. Affected devices include the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e, HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e, HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e All-in-One, and HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One Printer.
If you see the blue screen, you have to send the device to the repair service. According to several customers, there is no other solution. Some proactively receive a replacement device so that they cannot do without a printer.
The problem is that internet-connected devices automatically install the wrong update. HP therefore advises all customers who own one of the above models to separate it. The manufacturer is working on a solution to the problem.
