Windows Insider is a program that Microsoft has set up for users who want to evaluate early trial versions.

Before programs or software are released by Microsoft, they are extensively tested. Windows Insiders make users an active part of the development. In this way, Microsoft actually creates a whole community of volunteers to help them. You can be there too if you have a Microsoft account.

You can easily register online or through Settings in Windows 11. Once you’re part of the program, you can get updates from different builds or preview and test them. After that comes the most important part, which is providing feedback that Microsoft’s developers might be able to use.

We’ll show you the simple steps to get into Windows Insider through your settings.

  • Step 1: Go to Windows Insiders

    To register, you must first go to Windows Insider. Go to begin over the Windows logo in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and type insider in the search bar. From there you can literally get started.

    If you want to register online, you can do that too. Go to Windows Insider and sign in with your Microsoft account. From there you can proceed with the following steps.

Intermediate step: Activate feedback

Before you can install a trial version of Windows 11, the system will ask you diagnosis and feedback to turn on.   • Step 2: Link Account

    Microsoft wants to know who you are when you provide feedback. To participate, you must associate a Microsoft account with the program. Don’t have one yet? Then create one here for free.

  • Step 3: Choose a channel

    There are several Windows Insider channels to choose from. Which one you choose depends on your reason for joining the program. See what interests you the most and click on it.

    • canary – Intended for more tech-savvy users. Novelties are still in an early stage of development and may still be unstable.
    • The V – For those who like. Mainly trial versions of Windows 11, which still have some flaws and are often not very stable.
    • beta – Windows 11 updates, which are already much more reliable and stable. The updates here have been validated by Microsoft. In this channel, your feedback has the greatest impact.
    • preview – More for commercial users. Check out sample solutions and key features. Optional early access to the next version of Windows 11.

  • Step 4: Finish

    From here it’s just a matter of completion. when you are on Get on After selecting a channel, click , agree to the Privacy Policy and Insider’s Consent. The programs you have tested and evaluated are incomplete and may therefore contain errors. Here you are actually indicating that you are aware of it.

After that, all you have to do is restart your computer. You are now part of the Windows Insider program. It’s best to do it now, it only takes a while. After restarting, Windows 11 will automatically start downloading the latest update. Installation can take up to half an hour, bear that in mind.

You can always exit the program from the same Windows Insider menu in the future. Have you had a bad experience with a trial version? With a push of a button you can return to the standard update rhythm of Windows 11. Only downside: you keep the last (earliest) update you installed. In the meantime, you’ll only get security updates until Windows 11’s stable update cycle reaches your point.
