Preparations are being made at Jiuquan Space Base in northern China for the launch of the Shenzhou 16 manned spacecraft into Earth orbit. The Long March-2F launch vehicle was delivered to the launch site with a ship installed on it.

This was reported by the Chinese State Administration of Manned Cosmonautics (CMSA), Ukrinform reported, referring to Xinhua.

“The facilities and equipment at the launch site are operational. All functional checks and tests will be carried out according to plan before commissioning,” he said.

The launch of the spacecraft into Earth orbit should occur in the near future.

Shenzhou 16 is the eleventh manned spacecraft in China’s Shenzhou series. The Chinese space station will make its fifth mission to Tiangong and will deliver three taikonauts to it, which will operate in orbit for about six months.

The crew of the Shenzhou 15 mission, which has been in space since November 29 last year, will return to Earth.

The next spacecraft, Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18, are already being built and tested by the space agency.

As reported by Ukrinform, China on Sunday successfully put new satellites into orbit for space exploration, including Macao Science 1, the first space exploration satellite in the Macao Special Administrative Region.
