Sony has confirmed that the PS5 has become the company’s most profitable console of the generation, and always taking into account the time it has been on the market. According to Eric Lemel, vice president of global PlayStation marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PS5 offering has improved tremendously and all the consoles currently being sold generate profits for Sony.

We know this is nothing new, and that PS5 became profitable in mid-2021which means that this is one of the generations that started to bring benefits for Sony first (for sales, that is, at the hardware level), and with the various revisions and cost reductions that the company made in Japanese. it is clear that its revenue margin per console sold increases.

Lemel also said that they expect the PS5 to outperform the PS4, starting from the same time that has passed since its launch, during Christmas this year and that it will also surpass it in other important metrics such as the number of active users per month. According to this executive, the said console is the most powerful platform they have built so far, and they believe that they have never been in a better situation due to the huge interest that the PS5 continues to generate.

On a different note, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, recently commented they always “check the prices”, which take into account market circumstances and do not exclude the implementation of new adjustments based on the reality of the market and its needs. His words have caused some controversy as they suggest that they could raise the price of their games, console or services again.

Don’t get me wrong, he didn’t make any specific comments like “we’re going to raise the price of this and that,” but he did indicate that they’re always looking at that option, and that They wouldn’t shake their hand if they had to.

It is clear that Sony is in a very comfortable position with the PS5 and that at the moment it surpasses the Xbox Series X in both popularity and interest and sales, and that’s a problem because leaving Sony in a dominant position which ultimately allows you to doing things that a few years ago would have seemed like nonsensesuch as raising the price of the PS5 two years after its launch.
