Video hosting YouTube will get rid of the Stories section – posts that disappear after a certain period of time. Channel owners will no longer be able to broadcast them from June 26, and content that has already been broadcast will be shown for another 7 days.
The Stories section launched on YouTube as Reels in 2017—disappearing messages were available on channels with more than 10,000 subscribers; They worked like Instagram and in turn moved from Snapchat. In stories, writers post news or behind-the-scenes content to promote channels. The feature didn’t catch on on YouTube: Few people were able to use it, but even they often neglected Stories and had no visible presence on the platform.
The platform management offers to publish the Story content in other sections: “Community” and Shorts. Recently, the capabilities of the “Community” have been expanded – the authors began to determine the time of the disappearance of text publications. And surveys, quizzes, photos and a video of them appeared. YouTube is also running a campaign to boost the popularity of TikTok’s rival vertical short format and is trying to persuade creators of long videos to post short videos as well.
As for stories, this format hasn’t just caught on on YouTube. An attempt was made to introduce something similar called Fleets on Twitter, but the innovation didn’t last even a year.
