A new ASRock motherboard press release has reinforced rumors heading to possible launch of new Intel processors for the LGA1700 socket, which as our regular readers already know is used by Core Gen12 (Intel Alder Lake-S) and Core Gen13 (Intel Raptor Lake-S) processors.
The truth is that this is not the first time that the arrival of the third wave of Intel CPUs for the mentioned socket is considered. Over the past few months, we’ve seen rumors pointing to a possible intergenerational refresh of the Raptor Lake-S, and this made more and more sense after numerous voices assuring that Intel I wouldn’t release a desktop version of Meteor Lakeand that said generation will be limited to laptops.
According to ASRock, its new Z790 motherboards are ready “to support future CPUs that will have even higher power consumption.” I think these words are very clear and that they emphasize that new high-performance Intel CPUs with higher consumption for the LGA1700 socket are expected to be launched. These new processors should be talked about Intel Raptor Lake Refresh.

We must be clear that the Intel Lake Refresh processors will not introduce changes in everything related to the number of cores and threads, and that they will use the same architecture as the current generation. The only major difference that will allow the chip giant to improve performance will be in increase in work frequency, and it is clear that for their stability it will be necessary to increase consumption.
We don’t have concrete information yet, but thanks to the information that ASRock has shared, it is almost confirmed that the Intel Raptor Lake Refresh will be a reality, and that they will be minor improvements over the current generation. It will be interesting to see what frequency levels these processors are able to reach and also What consumption and temperatures will they have.
On the AMD side, we don’t expect any intergenerational refresh. Sunnyvale has already launched non-X Ryzen 7000 and models with 3D stacked cache, so its next step will be to launch new CPUs based on Zen architecture 5, something that should appear in 2024, at least in theory. As for the launch of the new Raptor Lake-S Refresh, everything seems to indicate that they will hit the market later this year.
