This Thursday (1st), Meta announced the Quest 3 virtual reality glasses and mixed reality headset. The company’s official presentation ahead of the Meta Gaming Showcase put an end to a string of speculation and rumors surrounding a new device from the company in charge of Facebook.

The Quest 3 will retail for $499.99 and will ship with 128GB of storage. It is expected to be released in autumn 2023. The company promises to provide more details about the device during the Meta Connect event on September 27th.

Meta hasn’t released exact details about the Quest 3, but said it will offer “superior resolution, improved performance, innovative Meta Reality technology, and a thinner, more comfortable design” for its advanced VR device.

According to the company, they promise to “completely redesign the Touch Plus controls in the Quest 3, making them simpler and more ergonomic.” The Quest 3 is the next generation of the Quest 2, released in 2020 and has established itself as the most successful and longest supported headset on the market.

Like its predecessor, the Quest 3 is a wireless headset that eliminates the need for a powerful PC. Quest 3 will be compatible with Quest 2’s entire catalog of games, and Meta delivers twice the graphics performance with higher resolution screens and more advanced lenses.

Availability Quest 2 will have lower prices

Unlike Quest Pro, which can track your face to make your cartoonish avatar look more convincing in the metaverse, Quest 3’s functionality doesn’t seem to differ much from Quest 2’s true colors.

This will allow you to play augmented reality games like Demeo using Quest 3’s security cameras (as opposed to Quest 2’s fuzzy color mode). The Quest 3 also features redesigned Touch Plus controllers with tactile improvements inspired by the controllers in the more expensive Quest Pro.

Meta will keep the Quest 2 available, now with lower starting prices starting June 4: $299.99 for the 128GB model and $349.99 for the 256GB model. Additionally, an upcoming headset software update has been announced that will improve CPU and GPU performance for the 2020 model.
