NASA and SpaceX plan to launch the company’s 28th commercial cargo mission from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the International Space Station on June 4 at 12:12 p.m. ET.
The launch will be streamed live on NASA TV, the NASA app, and the agency’s website, with pre-launch events kicking off Friday, June 2. Follow all events at:
SpaceX’s Dragon will provide new scientific research, food, supplies and equipment for international crews, including the next pair of IROSA (International Space Station Deploys Solar Arrays). Solar panels deployed using stored kinetic energy will expand the space station’s power generation capabilities. This will be IROSA’s fifth and sixth launches aboard the SpaceX Dragon hull. Each new IROSA will generate more than 20 kilowatts of electricity and, when fully installed, will increase electricity production by 30% over the existing strings of the plant.
It is scheduled to arrive at the station at 05:50 on Tuesday, June 6th. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft autonomously docks with the Harmony module’s anti-aircraft port. The spacecraft is expected to spend about a month attached to the orbital outpost before returning to Earth for research and cargo return, sailing off the coast of Florida.
