Until a decision is made, Microsoft expects the Irish Data Protection Commission to impose a fine of around 425 million US dollars.

Microsoft fears a $425 million fine from the Irish Data Protection Commission. It investigates practices where targeted advertising has been served on LinkedIn in a way that is not in line with European law. LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft and is therefore responsible for any fines.

preliminary decision

Microsoft would have already received a preliminary decision. A public decision and final fine are yet to be made, but the company said it has already accumulated $425 million in reserves in the fourth quarter of this year.

Europe plans to enforce the GDPR more strictly and accurately. However, this research precedes that decision. European data protection authorities have already imposed several large fines in recent years, most notably Meta with a record fine of 1.2 billion euros.
