After your Google account, you can now also login within Google Cloud and Workspace without a password.

Google introduces passkeys for other platforms. Passkeys are a technology for authenticating users without requiring a password. Instead, authentication occurs solely via an alternative such as fingerprinting. Logging in with a passkey is therefore more secure, although the login standard still has limitations.

Since the beginning of May, you can already add passkeys to your Google account. You can read how to do this in our practical guide. Now the search giant is expanding passkeys to Google Cloud and Workspace.

Google Workspace passkeys

Google offers Passkey support for Android, Windows, ChromeOS, iOS and macOS. Popular web browsers such as Chrome, Safari and Microsoft Edge already support the technology online.

Workspace customers can use passkeys within a 2FA authentication method. For example, this can replace the yes-no notification that appears on your phone today.

Especially cool: According to Google, logging in with passkeys is faster than with a conventional password thanks to biometrics. Our own research shows that using passkeys is twice as fast and four times less likely to make mistakes.

Passkey support will roll out to all Google Cloud and Workspace accounts in the coming days. The feature will be available to everyone from June 20th. IT teams needn’t worry: passkeys are disabled by default, users must explicitly choose to use them, and IT must allow them.
