During WWDC 2023, Apple introduced macOS 14 Sonoma, the latest operating system for Mac computers. The new version improves usability with new features that promise to revolutionize the releases already made by the Cupertino-based company on Mac computers.

The big surprise of the announcement was the Game Mode feature.. With input from Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear and Death Stranding series, Game Mode has been introduced for Mac users who love gaming. This feature, when enabled, prioritizes CPU and GPU usage for gamingas well as reduce the latency of AirPods to give users a better experience.

Among the new products presented by Apple, another one has attracted attention – new widget interface. Users can now take widgets from the side drop-down menu and place them on the desktop, just like in Windows 7. The new widgets can be interactive and disappear into the background when the user opens a window.

Easter Egg Windows XP

The background image of macOS Sonoma is a nod to the classic grass hill in Windows XP, as the place where the wallpaper was created is in Sonoma, the city that inspired the name macOS 14. Even without adding anything to the user interface, it’s an interesting interaction between the two tech giants.

macOS Sonoma also lets you create a group of shared passwords, activate Siri with “Siri” only, and add websites as “apps” to the Dock. For video calls, the new OS includes a Presenter Overlay feature that allows you to overlay the presenter’s video, providing a more immersive meeting experience.

In addition, several updates announced for iOS 17 will also be available in macOS Sonoma, including an improved AutoCorrect feature, faster PDF form completion, and improved sticker functionality.

The final version of macOS 14 Sonoma will be available after September, and the beta version is already available to developers. The operating system is compatible with many Mac computers, including iMac (2019 and up), iMac Pro (2017 only), MacBook Air (2018 and up), MacBook Pro (2018 and up), Mac Pro ( 2019 and up), Mac Studio (2022 and up), and Mac Mini (2018 and up).
