The popular communication platform Zoom is introducing a number of new functions and services related to data protection.

Paying users can now use a range of new data protection services and functions launched by the American communications platform Zoom.

Online dating has been a little higher on the agenda in Europe lately. The EU is therefore making plans to increasingly protect data within its borders.

This means that companies outside the Union are making more and more effort to store local online data. Zoom is now the next US company to ramp up its efforts in this space. The company will support the storage of local data within the European Economic Area.

Local Zoom users

Premium users, the paid variant, can now select specific data from webinars, meetings and team chat tools within the EEA and store it in European data centers. This will initially be mainly in Frankfurt, but Zoom also has data centers in the Netherlands and Switzerland. The company confirmed that data will continue to be shared with its US home base in exceptional cases. For example in case of possible illegal activities.

In order to smoothly implement these new services and features, a technical support team is available for premium European users who wish to use them.

This isn’t the only news Zoom has received in recent months. Last month there was the announcement of its AI assistant Claude and in April the company announced the acquisition of startup Workvivo.
