At least seven people are missing after the flood caused by the destruction of the New Kakhovka Dam, on the Dnieper River and 60 kilometers from the Ukrainian city of Kherson.

“Now we are looking for information about the disappeared, but previously these people were also evacuated from flood zones that has ceased to exist. There were shepherds there… About seven people, whom we know for sure,” Vladimir Leontiev, the pro-Russian mayor of the city, assured the Russian news agency Interfax.

According to the mayor, rescuers “go around” these territories and, although the city’s water level is still “quite considerable,” it has begun to fall.

About 900 people were evacuated from these territories. 17 people were rescued from rooftops because the water reached a height of 12 meters. Authorities predict that water levels will begin to fall within three days.

Pro-Russian authorities in Kherson, partly occupied by Russian troops, said on Wednesday extending the state of emergency to the entire region floods recorded as a result of the attack on the Kaiowka dam.

So, they warned that the city of Korsunka “completely flooded due to uncontrolled discharge of water from the reserve” after the attack, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The Government of Ukraine, for its part, has warned that some 42 thousand people are in the “disaster zone”, where serious flooding could occur in the coming days, about which he warned that “the true extent of what happened at the moment is unknown.”

Moscow continues to deny any involvement in the attack, while Kyiv insists that the authorship is Russian. “It was a deliberate explosion. They knew exactly what they were doing,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday.
