The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic fired this Saturday an agent involved in an operation in which the life of a child of Haitian origin was in danger, an action that caused outrage in the country bordering Haiti.
After the video in which he observes child hanging from the bars of a moving DGM truckwhile a woman, apparently his mother, holds him from the inside as he is transferred to the immigration department, the entity ordered an investigation into what happened.
Shortly after and in the midst of harsh criticism for what happened, DGM announced in a statement. dismissal of immigration agent Juan R. Rodriguezimplicated “in a disturbing and heartbreaking incident”.

For his part, DGM head Venacio Alctantara warned that “will not tolerate actions that violate the integrity of people and human rights”.
“We want to make it clear that any agent who violates our rules, will be removed from the institution. Whoever engages in such actions will have to face the consequences that this entails,” Alcantara said in a statement.
