Chief Surgeon of the Gemelli Hospital, Sergio Alfieritold the media on Saturday that the 86-year-old dad had agreed with doctors to stay in the hospital for at least all next week.

“It’s only been three days. We ask the Holy Father to be prudent and avoid efforts (to stay on the balcony),” Alfieri said. “Every time you get out of bed and sit in a chair, you put pressure on your abdominal walls.”
A mesh prosthesis was inserted into the abdominal wall. to help heal, and doctors want it to fit and secure properly to avoid reoperation if it ruptures, he added. “They can understand that this is not good for him or me,” Alfieri joked.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the pope would say the traditional Angelus prayer on Sunday at noon in his hospital room, and that the faithful could say it at the same time.
Alfieri said Pape was disconnected from his intravenous tubes on Friday and put on a semi-liquid diet. He pointed out that all medical indicators are normal, there are no heart problems, complete healing of scars on the abdomen will take about three months.
The Vatican said that good blood test results and that a chest x-ray showed no problems.
