As reported by Ukrinform, the Financial Times reports this.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, the Beijing-based division of Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) has started applying for visas for leading artificial intelligence experts to relocate from the Chinese capital to its institute in Vancouver, Canada.
It has about 20-40 employees.
A person close to Microsoft said fewer Chinese staff will be relocated to Canada this year, where the US tech giant is building a new lab with experts from around the world.
Sources say the move is a response to growing political tensions between the US and China, and a measure to prevent tech groups from hijacking top AI research experts to develop their own versions of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
As Ukrinform reported, the first summit on the security of artificial intelligence will be held in the UK this year.
