Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto Van Claveren presented his new feminist foreign policy (PEF)which places Chile is at the forefront, becoming the first country in South America to introduce this strategy.

According to the ministry, PEF pays special attention to gender equality, as it indicates that it is “a democratic value and a principle that strengthens the image, status and recognition of the country.”

The new policy aims to advance internally, where the importance of women’s participation in decision-making, and externally, where coordinated actions are promoted with “definite goals and measurable results.”

“We have a challenge ahead of us that requires all of us, because we know that gender inequality seriously limits the potential for growth and development of society,” Van Klaveren said.

We were the first country in the world to include gender and trade sections in several of our treaties in an effort to open up opportunities to increase women’s participation in international trade,” said Foreign Minister Van Klaveren.

In 2014, Sweden was the first country to establish this feminist foreign policy, Canada followed three years later, France and Luxembourg in 2019, Mexico and Spain in 2021, and now, with Chile joining the list, Colombia and Argentina also expressed interest. in its acceptance.
