Almost one in three Belgian companies do not understand the connection between data insights and security.
According to a study by Trend Micro, data-driven insights are an important counterpart to security. Interviews with 2,718 policymakers in 25 countries show that while acknowledging that effective security can accelerate digitization, many business leaders fail to see the connection between security and data transparency.
“Data-driven insights are an increasingly important foundation for the sustained growth demanded by today’s executive board. But unless the data is properly secured, such initiatives have little chance of succeeding,” says Pieter Molen, Technical Director Benelux at Trend Micro. “It’s time for business leaders to recognize the importance of security to the growth of the entire organization and for CISOs to engage more compellingly.”
The survey shows that 56 percent of Belgian organizations (61 percent globally) believe there is an urgent need to expand their revenue streams in 2023 due to the uncertain macroeconomic and geopolitical challenges.
Another 56 percent (68 percent globally) say access to data is essential to unlocking these new revenue streams, while 79 percent (91 percent globally) say they can realize cost savings through better use of data.
Security is becoming more sophisticated
Data analytics and similar tools can increase business agility by helping them anticipate market trends and make financial forecasts. However, 30 percent of Belgian respondents say they don’t understand the connection between security and data insights. An even larger number fail to make a connection between security and the generation of new revenue streams (64%) and cost savings (58%).
The research also shows that the security posture of most organizations is becoming more mature. About six in ten Belgian IT decision makers surveyed (64%) say their organization tracks and reports on cyber risks. Another 93 percent say their organization has an improvement program in place to meet digital transformation goals.
