The first phase of the “Drone Army” project was completed in Ukraine. According to the results, the UAV Operator Training Centers trained 10,000 military personnel to operate the “wings” in 10 months. In the second phase, 10,000 more UAV pilots will undergo vocational training.
This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Innovations, Education, Science and Technology Development – Digital Transformation, Ukrinform correspondent reported.
Within the scope of the “Drone Army” project, the training of 10 thousand UAV operators has been completed. 26 schools participated. Now the second phase begins – we plan to train another 10,000 soldiers. We also offer new categories. Previously it was only about reconnaissance helicopters, now it applies to FPV drones and aircraft-type UAVs. “We plan to finish this phase faster than the previous one because the schools have adjusted the education process in half a year,” he said.

According to him, the project envisages that 7,600 pilots will acquire skills to operate conventional reconnaissance helicopters (Mavic/Matrice/Autel), 2,000 – FPV drones, and 400 pilots – bomber (Storks, FlyEye). Each of the military personnel will be able to choose one of the 26 private schools with which the cooperation memorandum has been signed. They are found in different regions of Ukraine – Kiev, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkassy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Odessa.
During training, all students will learn the technical parameters of drones, equipment maintenance, cartography, flight tactics in EW conditions, camouflage, unmasking factors of the enemy, etc. they go through the theoretical part in which they work. And the practical part, with flights and missions on training grounds as close as possible to real combat.
The “Drone Army” uses funds from donors, partners, international and private companies. But it is very important that this project becomes a part of the state program. The state needs to invest in this direction because there is actually a technological war going on right now. “Drones play an incredibly important role and save hundreds of lives every day.”
As reported, “Drone Army” is a project initiated by the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Digital Ministry. This is a comprehensive program in which the systematic purchase of drones, their repair and training courses for relevant specialists are planned. The project started on 1 July. For more than 11 months of operation of the Drone Army, 3,864 drone complexes were purchased at the expense of United24. The total amount of the contracts made is over 4.3 billion hryvnia.
