It’s been a few weeks now launch of ASUS ROG Ally, the ASUS portable console that there is a need to compete with devices such as the current Steam Deck, but also with other alternatives such as ONEXFLY. Let us remind you that this new laptop definitely surprised us right at the time of presentation with its technical specifications, which place it at the top of the table of main devices on this market.
In the model already available on the market, we find inside a AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU (a second model with Ryzen Z1 is planned), which integrates a CPU with 8 cores / 16 threads and 24 MB cache, capable of reaching 5.10 gigahertz, complemented by a Radeon GPU with RDNA 3 architecture, 12 CU, up to 2.7 gigahertz and up to 8 .6 teraflops. This set is based on 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM (6,400 MT/s dual channel) and 512 gigabytes of NVME PCIe 4.0 storage. In addition, for users who want maximum graphics performance, there is also ROG XG MOBILE, an external graphics card that can be up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.
The proposal is even more interesting considering its price of 799 euros, which considering its components they clearly indicate that ASUS has adjusted to the maximumWell, in the past we have seen some portables that are more or less comparable in terms of benefits, with prices that hovered around or even crossed the psychological threshold of 1000 euros. And we are waiting, but the price of the model with APU Ryzen Z1 will be even cheaper.
Well, there are even more positive things to say about this portable console, namely that after performing its classic teardown test, iFixit found that disassembling the ASUS ROG Ally is easier than disassembling with the Steam Deck.. In other words, if we ever want to replace a part or need to repair it and want to do it ourselves, it will be much easier for us with the ASUS model than with the Valve device.
More precisely, as we can see in the video, removing the battery is very easyand we do not encounter much complexity when removing the rods and their printed circuit boards. As for the availability of space for SSD storage, it is not difficult to achieve. Just removing the visor is a bit more complicated due to the amount of glue used to secure it, although this is understandable as it is necessary for the visor to remain firmly fixed despite being used in mobile conditions.
