British scientists studied how turning points in nature reinforce and accelerate each other and concluded that ecological collapse may occur in the current generation. A study on this has been published in the journal. Nature Sustainability.
The authors warn that more than one-fifth of the world’s ecosystems, including the Amazon rainforest, are threatened with extinction.
“It could be very soon. “We may be the last generation to see the Amazon,” said Simon Wilcock, a scientist at the Arable Research Institute (UK).
Earlier, a group of experts on climate change at the United Nations had predicted that the milestone in the Amazon would not be before 2100.
The authors of this article note that previous studies have focused only on climate change and deforestation.
They did not take into account the water reserves and the pollution rate of the rivers, so it seemed that people’s cloudless life would continue for a long time.
