Thanks to the James Webb telescope, an international team of NASA astronomers has discovered for the first time the carbon molecule, which is important for life in space.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by CNN.

The compound, called methyl cation (CH3+), was discovered in protoplanetary disk d203-506 in a young star system 1,350 light-years from Earth in the Orion Nebula.

Carbon molecules are of interest to scientists because they are the basis of all life as we know and understand it.

The methyl cation is believed to be an important component that helps create more complex carbon-based molecules.

It is stated that after the formation of CH3+ this leads to additional chemical reactions in space that allow the formation of more complex carbon molecules even at low temperatures.

“This finding not only confirms James Webb’s incredible sensitivity, but also confirms the putative centrality of CH3+ in interstellar chemistry,” said study co-author Marie-Aline Martin-Drumel, a researcher at the Orsay Institute for Molecular Sciences. Paris-Saclays in France.

As reported by Ukrinform, a group of astronomers from Texas A&M University (USA) have discovered the earliest known examples of complex organic molecules in the universe using the James Webb telescope.
