It looks like YouTube is developing a new gaming service called “Playables”. The Wall Street Gazette. The service, which allows users to play games on mobile devices or desktop computers, has been tested with Google employees.
Playables seems to offer an alternative to video content by offering instant games via the YouTube site or YouTube mobile apps. A YouTube spokesperson said in a statement: The Wall Street Gazette“Gaming has long been a YouTube focus” and that the company is “always trying new features”, but a spokesperson declined to comment specifically on Playables.
Google used to have Stadia, a cloud gaming service, but last September it announced plans to shut it down. Google said the service failed to achieve the expected popularity and Stadia was officially shut down in January 2023.
Focusing on casual games rather than console games, Playables doesn’t offer the same cloud gaming experience as Stadia. One of the games available is Stack Bounce, an arcade game where players break bricks with a ball. There’s no word on when Playables might see a public launch.
