Microsoft Teams introduces a filter to detect offensive language.

Teams, Microsoft’s popular communications platform, is introducing some new features for live meetings, including an offensive language filter. The system can recognize these in the subtitles and filter them out.

The function is optional. To enable or disable them, go to Call to action to the device settings under ‘PC microphone and speakers‘ and then you click ‘Captions and Transcripts‘ At. There you can choose whether you want to activate the filter or not. In other words: this is a personal decision, the person organizing the meeting has no influence on it.

It has not yet been specified whether the function will work in languages ​​other than English, but you can always try it out. At your own risk, we do not encourage swearing or abuse in meetings.

How efficiently the filter works depends on the quality of the microphone: this must already be good enough for the system to react quickly enough and adjust the subtitles.

New to subtitles

Microsoft has also proposed some more updates for live meeting captions. Some things have been – slightly – adjusted.

For example, the layout has changed a bit. For example, the speaker’s name now appears entirely above the transcript of what someone says, and the default number of visible lines is now three (which can also be increased). You can also customize the color and font of the text area.

Regarding the language, you now have the option of specifying which language will be spoken during the meeting. Teams Premium users can choose in which language the live translation feature should be available.

Microsoft obviously doesn’t stand still when it comes to its popular communications platform. Earlier this month, the tech giant added Teams to the Windows app, and late last month the company also introduced the shuffle feature for group sessions.
