Pixel Fold owners complain of internal screen-related issues

Google launched its first folding phone, the Pixel Fold, in May of this year. It went on sale in some countries a few days ago. However, there is bad news. Pixel Fold owners are already experiencing and complaining about issues with the foldable phone. While even best-in-class flagship phones have had issues, they usually don’t appear right after purchase. Google’s Pixel Fold is a completely different case here.

Ron Amadeo of ARS Technica was the first to report the unfortunate event with the Pixel Fold. He said the flexible OLED display on his device disappeared after four days. The bottom 10 pixels of the foldable phone died first, forming a white line at the bottom of the screen at 100 percent brightness. He added that the entire left half of the folding screen became unresponsive to touches, and after an hour a large white gradient began to move upwards on the screen as seen in the image above.

Amadeo estimates that a small piece of debris got into the tiny gap between the screen protector and the bezels inside the screen. It was broken enough to pierce the OLED panel when the phone was powered off.

Soon after, other Pixel Fold owners also started sharing issues with their devices on Reddit. One user also reported minor dents in the same area of the screen but had no issues so far. Another Pixel Fold owner noticed that the screen protector on his device was peeling off along with a few scratches. Finally, a third Google Pixel owner reported that a bright pink line appeared on the device’s screen once or twice. However, it spread from one end of the screen to the other.

Addressing Pixel Fold issues, Google spokesperson Alex Morriconi told The Verge: “We recommend anyone experiencing the issue contact support to investigate”.
