An important event in the domestic history of the Chery brand: the “heavenly” brand, which once abandoned sedans in favor of crossovers that quickly gained popularity, returned to its roots and launched the Arrizo 8, a medium-sized model that has all the characteristics inherent in D-class cars. The Chinese approached the static presentation of the novelty with special attention and pompously presented the G8 to the public in Barvikha near Moscow. And how can you not remember the first show of the “eighth” Hyundai Sonata in the training center of the brand or Kia K5 on YouTube … Let’s remember and return to the debutant.
In my purely subjective opinion, Chery Arrizo 8 is more beautiful, elegant and harmonious than its rival JAC J7. But it is much more interesting that the newcomer, built on the relatively fresh M1X modular platform, wins in terms of ground clearance (144 vs. 125 mm) and wheelbase length (although the difference is insignificant, but still: 2770 vs. 2760 mm). As for the suspension, what one sedan has, what the other has is a McPherson in the front and a “multi-link” in the rear.
Under the hood of the Chery Arrizo 8, a 1.6-liter TDGI was “registered”, for the development of which the Chinese attracted assistants from the Austrian AVL. And it was not for nothing that they attracted – the characteristics of the unit are impressive: its power is 186 horsepower. Of. at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 275 Nm in a fairly wide range from 2000 to 4000 rpm. The turbocharged engine, combined with a seven-speed “robot”, accelerates the sedan to the first hundred in 8.9 seconds, according to the passport. And the top speed of the car reaches 205 km / h. Incidentally, the drive has no alternative for the front.
It is interesting that the new “king of sedans”, as Chery representatives themselves call the Arrizo 8, can be easily “fed” with 92nd gasoline. Consumption? It is said that in the city it is no more than 8.5 liters, in the combined cycle – 6.2 liters, and on the highway – 5 liters. Well, for now, albeit with some skepticism, we will still take our word for it, and a little later, during a full-fledged test drive, we will definitely check these numbers.
Arrizo 8 is offered to Russians in three versions: Prestige, Ultimate and Ultimate SE. The latter is a limited edition. In the “base” you will find six airbags, 18-inch “rollers”; natural full LED optics; full size spare wheel; full “winter package”, including heated windshield washers; climate control with improved air filtration and ionization system; many electronic driving assistants, including all-round visibility; dual screens “tidy” and “multimedia” with a total diagonal of 24.6 inches.
The Ultimate adds to all of the above a panoramic sunroof, a number of ‘smart’ systems such as lane keeping and automatic low/high beam switching, four extra airbags, lumbar support for the driver and a built-in air freshener. And the Ultimate SE is a design delight: an emerald green body with bronze inserts, a black roof, ivory leather interior, dark sapphire interior details.
Separately, I would like to note that the Arrizo 8 in all trim levels has a Chery Connect telematics system – that is, some machine functions can be controlled remotely with a smartphone. Need to start the engine, “blink” the headlights to quickly find a car in a huge supermarket parking lot, track geolocation? Press the button! It is also helpful that the “cell phone” also notifies you of technical problems with the “swallow”, if any.
Well, now the fly in the ointment in this Chinese barrel of honey is the prices. For Chery Arrizo 8 in the “simple” version of Prestige, dealers ask from 3,399,900 rubles, in the Ultimate version – from 3,499,900. But the limited Ultimate SE takes out at least 3,549,900 rubles from the wallet. JAC J7, which we have already mentioned here, of course, does not stand next to its two “cripples”. However, Toyota Camry and Kia K5, whose prices today exceed 4 million, will surely go to the trash of history.
