GPD Win 4 was launched in a crowdfunding campaign in late 2022 on Indiegoo. Now the manufacturer has presented a renewed version for this year with a better hardware base, greater memory and storage options and the addition of a port for connecting external bases.

GPD Win 4 2023 retains the well known and very special basic design as it includes a physical keyboard and the backlight that sets it apart from the various handheld gaming machines that are coming to the market in large numbers.

The display is a multi-touch LCD 6 inches diagonal and native FHD resolution for 1920 x 1080 pixels. By his side he has game controllers with dual analog sticks, D-Pad, action buttons, and linear analog triggers with a curved end chassis reminiscent of the Sony PSP, albeit larger.

It supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and optional 4G-LTE which is not a component we see in portable consoles. It has a microSD card slot, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack and a built-in microphone. It is also equipped with a 40Gbps USB4 port, the most advanced interface for connecting peripherals, a fan for active cooling, a fingerprint sensor for login and an optical touch sensor that serves as a trackpad for navigation.

GPD Win 4 2023: more performance

GPD has updated the hardware base of this machine in a big way by adding the latest Ryzens from AMD. And not just any, because in the most advanced configuration it offers the ZEN4 + RDNA3 version with models like the Ryzen 7 7840U. Impressive development for a hand machine with 8 physical cores and 16 threads and a frequency that can exceed 5 GHz The integrated graphics is a Radeon 780M with 12 computing units.

Memory section that’s getting better too with 32 or 64 Gbytes of LPDDR5x-7500 and storage based on PCIe Gen4 SSD with capacities from 512 GB to 4 TB. That said, it’s a spectacular configuration that could easily move a good-level desktop.

And for those who want more, GPD has added an Oculink port with support for 63Gbps data transfer rates, allowing users to connect a high-speed external graphics dock like the ones the company provides.

GPD Win 4 2023 will support dual boot Windows OS and Steam and will be available from August. We don’t know the final price, but with such a high configuration, it can’t be cheap. You have to see the “levelling” of handheld gaming machines that are coming and have opened up a new era in the sector.
