Canada is handing out money to 11 million citizens to raise food prices

About 11 million low-income Canadians began receiving cash assistance from the federal government on Wednesday to offset the sharp rise in food prices. experienced in the past 12 months.

Government checks range from 234 to 628 Canadian dollars (176 to 472 US dollars or 162.2 to 434.9 euros) depending on the number of children and income received in 2021.

The help, called food reimbursement, is added to other reimbursement through the consumption tax. which the Canadian government has been supplying to families for several years to offset the rise in the cost of living in the country.

This was announced on Wednesday by Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. Discount on products does not compensate for the sharp increase in food prices but said it was “significant help”.
