The price of DRAM is no longer in free fall. This is due to measures taken by the memory manufacturers. So if you’re looking to buy memory, don’t hesitate.

DRAM prices have fallen sharply since the end of last year. As analysts predicted and as we reported, the price was at an all-time low in late March and storage has been getting cheaper ever since. That trend now appears to be reversing, with TrendForce noting that the price decline has narrowed to somewhere between zero and five percent.

Lower production

Memory price stabilization is the result of actions by memory manufacturers such as Samsung and Micron. They have scaled back production to counteract the oversupply and thus regain healthy margins. The price trend applies to almost all types of memory, from DDR5 to DDR4 to graphics memory and mobile DRAM.

TrendForce does not believe that the reversal of the decline means that the price will recover immediately. We’ll have to wait until 2024 for that. If the predictions are correct, in the coming quarter you will be paying less than ever for any type of storage. Those who want to invest should already consider this in the coming months and not wait until next year.
