A new reticle for soldiers has been developed to help them face the growing threat of mini-drones. Israeli-made SmartShooter SMASH Intelligent Weapon Sight Sight Control Systems sights will ensure that the soldier has a high probability of hitting mini drones. The drone can recognize the target, track its movements and hold the target even when the drone or user is in motion.

The sight will be installed on the SA80 A3 assault rifle. It can also be mounted on other individual weapons in service.

SMASH includes image processing that uses artificial intelligence to automatically capture the target. It then displays a frame around the target to the shooter’s reflex sight. This ability will only work when the scope is aiming to hit the target, which greatly increases the probability of destroying the drone.

“We are pleased to announce that the first unassembled C-sUAS equipment has arrived in the core equipment program,” said Mark Bowden, Director of Counter UAS SO1 Programs. “SMASH is a tried and tested piece of equipment. As we’ve seen in Ukraine and other areas of hostility, the threat of ALS is increasing significantly.”
