The GPT-4 API has been made fully publicly available. Those who have already paid for APIs can now access those of the latest language model at OpenAI.
According to OpenAI, millions of users have requested access to the GPT-4 API since March. By the end of this month, this access will be expanded for new developers. Depending on the processing capacity, OpenAI will then also increase the rate limit.
In addition to GPT-4, the GPT-3.5 Turbo, DALL E, and Whisper APIs are now publicly available. In addition, OpenAI optimizes both GPT-4 and GPT-3. These features should also be available later this year. Both programs can already develop code based on a description of programming functions at a reduced price per token.
In addition, OpenAI gradually completes the models that work with the Completions API. These older models will disappear on January 4th next year. The API will remain accessible, but the company will already mark it as legacy.
OpenAI therefore recommends users to switch to the enhanced Chat Completions API in good time (read now). Launched in March, it already accounts for 97 percent of API GPT usage.
In the meantime, we still have to wait a while for GPT-5. Currently, OpenAI has suspended training for this model.
