Intel and Nvidia are working together for more unified data security across CPU and GPU. This should make it easier to deploy sensitive workloads.

Intel and Nvidia will work together to deliver confidential workloads on CPU and GPU. Sensitive code that works with secret data can run in hardware enclaves. Such an enclave must be verified and this is done via certification. This process provides cryptographic proof of the authenticity of a hardware enclave.

Intel and Nvidia currently have their own independent solutions. By working together, the environments should be better integrated and there should be a uniform attestation process. The glue between the two becomes Project Amber. This is a cloud-based confidentiality service that Intel is working on.

Greater simplification of sensitive computations is relevant for AI, as sensitive data is often used in AI workloads. Confidential processing opens the door for the use of AI in more demanding secure environments.

The collaboration is important for Intel, which has an additional argument for using its latest Xeon Scalable chips in configurations with Nvidia H100 chips. Finally, the Intel Xeon Scalable processors are less interesting than AMD’s latest Epyc chips.
