A new extension to Apple’s password manager in iCloud now makes it compatible with multiple Chromium browsers.
iCloud Passwords got a new extension. Apple’s password manager is now also compatible with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers.
Safe browsing
The new extension is now available in the macOS Sonoma public beta. The important functions are already available for Google Chrome:
- Autofill for passwords and one-time codes
- Save new passwords
- Right-click QR Codes to set up code generators
These will be available soon for Microsoft Edge, Apple assures.
The message was on twitter announced by Apple software engineer and developer manager Ricky Mondello.
At your own risk
To try this new feature, you must install the new macOS Sonoma public beta. There’s a good chance there are bugs in there, so take the risk yourself. Anyway, don’t do that on a Mac you need for work or other important stuff.
For those who want it, the betas of iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Somora have also been available for a few weeks. The same warning applies, of course. We saw earlier this week that Apple is no stranger to bugs, as the RSR update failed for some of its operating systems.
