A few weeks ago, we told you about the YouTube Music redesign that was underway, and lo and behold, it’s now a reality for all users of Google’s on-demand music service.
What is a redesign, you ask? When editing some elements on the screen the YouTube Music web appKeep an eye on it because it’s the only and only web app that’s receiving tweaks; The mobile app continues as it was, although to be honest, it was already pretty good and has been the most loved by the developers of the service lately.
So it was the interface of the web application that demanded attention and got it, as we told you, with a slight redesign in the purest style of Spotify, moving the options from the top horizontal bar (start, explorer and library) to a new vertical panel located on the left side of the screen. The search bar is the only thing that remains where it was, the main differentiator of Spotify’s interface.
However, the similarities with the competitor’s service continue a little further down, as the rest of the panel is used put playlists there and as we’ve pointed out before, this saves users from having to click to get to a section whose last selected view is permanent, thus forcing them to scroll more than necessary to get to the page they’re looking for. In case you’re wondering, this is what YouTube Music looks like now.
As you can see, very, very similar to Spotify, which is not a bad thing, rather the opposite. One of the things that a user spends the most time on is playlists, and having them at hand is a requirement that everyone appreciates. But be careful because you won’t only find your playlists there, even though that’s its main utility.
As we also told you some time ago, YouTube Music is preparing to offer podcasts, and although this expansion of the service will take some time before the international implementation of the service, this panel will reportedly be the place to find new episodes of the programs you watch. In addition, you can anchor the content – playlists or podcasts – that you want for better accessibility.
Definitely, YouTube Music just got a major upgrade to its features on the web with a basic touch that not only Spotify has but many music services and apps as it is a common feature also seen in Deezer, Apple Music, Tidal and a long list of PC music players.
