British company Vertical Aerospace has announced the first flight of its VX4 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi without a pilot in the cockpit.

As reported by Ukrinform, New Atlas reported this.

The company plans to launch an aircraft taxi in 2026, although the year 2025 was previously specified in its plans.

It is noted that the spinning rotor VX4 can seat up to five people, and the company promises a range of more than 160 km at speeds of up to 322 km per hour.

Taking off from Cotswold Airport, a few hours west of London, the VX4 did not exceed 74 km/h on its short, remote-controlled flight.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority and Japan Civil Aviation Bureau agreed to certify the VX4 when the company met the certification requirements of the European Union regulator (EASA).

Thus, Vertical Aerospace can now focus its efforts on working with EASA and the US Civil Aviation Authority (FAA) to open many markets.

As reported by Ukrinform, last September Vertical Aerospace announced the first flight of its VX4 electric aerotaxi prototype with vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL). However, there was a pilot in the cockpit at that time.
