VMware brings 3D acceleration to its Fusion software for ARM Macs. This theoretically improves the performance of Windows significantly.
VMware announces a major update to its Fusion software. It will soon support 3D acceleration on new Macs with ARM processors and macOS Sonoma. This improvement makes the user interface more responsive. Fusion also gets DirectX 11 3D support, which basically allows playing simple games.
3D acceleration support essentially gives virtualized Windows instances on the Mac a GPU. We emphasize that virtualization of Windows for ARM is only possible on a Mac with ARM. Functionality and application compatibility limitations remain.

VMware shows some more improvements in the VMware Fusion Tech Preview 2023. For example, you can drag files faster and get a shared clipboard between your Windows virtual machine and your Mac. Finally, VMware integrates a new encryption. The virtualization giant recommends backing up VMs before starting the tech preview.
VMware itself is going through a turbulent time. Broadcom wants to take over the company, to the displeasure of customers and employees. Nevertheless, Europe and Great Britain have already approved the takeover. Only the Americans have yet to give their blessing.
