It will be reminded that Donald Trump was blocked on Twitter on January 6, 2021. This was the result of the riots in the Capitol, where supporters of the former president, who lost the election to Joe Biden, gathered to demand a recount. The politician’s publications drew attention to misinformation and called for violence. And after repeatedly marking his tweets as untrustworthy, they decided to shut down his access to the platform. Other social networks then blocked or suspended Trump’s account.
Elon Musk has repeatedly stated that he is a supporter of the so-called “absolute freedom of expression” when there are no restrictions on expression. This means the right to make all kinds of opinions and statements, even if they are outright lies or propaganda. Former businessman explained thus refusing to block Russian news sites on the Starlink network.
I really think it is wrong to block Donald Trump’s account. I think this was a mistake. I would lift the permanent ban. And Jack Dorsey – I want to be clear – shares this view. We believe that there should be no permanent bans,
says Musk.
Dorsey himself has already commented on these words. Axios business columnist Dan Primak wrote about the mention of Dorsey Musk on Twitter on May 10: “Musk says he agrees with Jack Dorsey that there should be no permanent bans on individual Twitter users. Let me remind you that Dorsey is CEO when such bans are introduced.”
The founder of the social network answered him:
“I really agree. There are exceptions (CSE, illegal behavior, spam or network manipulation etc), but usually permanent bans are our fault and useless, as I wrote here after the event (and call for stable social protocol networks)”.
He then quoted his message of January 14, 2021, saying that he was not celebrating or proud of Trump’s blockade, and questioned whether the decision was correct.
There are currently no comments on this particular statement by Trump’s Mask. However, talks about unblocking are not the first, and the former US president has previously said on Twitter that he won’t be returning. He plans to focus on developing his own platform, Truth Social, which he recently launched.
It is worth noting that the media and experts called Mask and Trump friends. During the presidency of the latter, they maintained close relations. By contrast, there are escalating conflicts with the Biden administration in Mask.
